What a week this has been. 4 Doctors Visits...4 days in a row, 3 prescriptions, 2 antibiotic shots and a sick baby in the bed (..i had to) This week has been way stressful...I'm hoping this is the end of it.
Between her fever of 104.2, giving me a heart attack (well almost)... Catheter no.1 which was by no means fun ( i cried), 2 shots (she cried) and a lot of poking and prying i didn't think i was going to survive.
Doctors Visit No. 3
This one wasn't all that bad...for me. For Riley walking into the back of the Doctors office is now dramatic. She got 2 shots this visit, Antibiotic shots which are suppose to help speed up the recovery and make sure that the antibiotics get to where they need to before things get worse. The shots weren't as bad as the waiting for 20 minutes after wards to make sure she didn't have a bad reaction.... a sick baby that you just pissed off and i am suppose to hold her for the next 20 minutes in a tiny little room?
I told the doctor that she was getting sick and that i was worried, she had a cough, sneeze and a runny nose...that came outta no where... no warning signs on this one. She checked her lungs and said it could possibly just be a cold.. i thought it was more (moms know there babies)... but i wasn't going to argue with the doctor... i can always come back... and so i did
Doctors Visit No. 4
After my 3 sleepless night (maybe 4Th...i really cant remember at this point) Listening to your child gasping for air, throw up on you every time she is done coughing, and sound like a little seal... awful. awful. awful. I called first thing in the morning and made her an appointment...
Since we have been there 3 times already this week everyone was extremely concerned, we had multiple doctors come in (just to check up on her and ask questions...again this is why i love this place... they do care!) I was right. It was Croup. Poor Riley started screaming the second the doctor took a step near her ...she was just wanting to listen to her lungs (which sounded great btw) but she has been so use to getting poked with needles or catheters and hurt there that she wasn't taking any chances.. she was pushing and shoving the doctor away and screaming... boy was she screaming.
Finally it was over, and it was Mommy's turn to torture her... i had to give her the first dose of steroids at the doctors office, they wanted her to start them asap. Drama queen fought me, but momma won.
After trying to find a pharmacy that had her medication we finally got to go home (left at 1030 got home at 230... a day of playing the waiting game)
Giving her the antibiotic was a breeze she opened her mouth right up and let me squeeze it in..
She is a trooper! definitely a very strong girl..
Finally Got Her To Eat
...well at least a couple of bites of food, my poor baby hasn't eaten in days... she has lost 3 lbs and was just getting weaker and weaker by the minute. She couldn't stand up anymore... every time she would try she would collapse to the ground catching herself with her face. I have had to have her attached to my hip all day because she just couldn't do it.
I made dinner, offered her some... she pushed my hand away...which scared me i didn't think that she could skip ANOTHER meal. i stuck it on her lips, she licked her lips and went in for the bite... A smile on both our faces, finally something in her belly.
Hopefully we are on our way to a full recovery, next week (or 10 days from now) she will have to have another catheter and an ultra sound on her kidneys, hopefully all goes well and everything comes out normal.
i cant imagine how scary it is for her, she has no clue what people are doing to her... my poor baby.
